Freedom and Fire — Gandhis Response to Partition and Independence (1947)

August 15, 1947.
India was free.

Crowds cheered. Flags rose. Fireworks lit the sky.

But Gandhi… was not there.

He sat in Calcutta—fasting.

Because freedom had come… with Partition.
Two nations. Millions displaced.
Over a million dead.

Gandhi couldn’t celebrate while his people killed each other.

He fasted for peace.
And riots stopped.

He said, "The freedom we have won is not the freedom I had dreamed of."

Because true freedom isn’t declared by flags—
It’s earned by love.
