The Last Wish I Ever Made
Twelve-year-old Emily had always felt invisible.
Not popular. Not funny. Just… there.
Teachers forgot her name.
Her parents barely noticed her.
So when she found the coin, it felt like fate.
Heavy. Rusted. Strange markings.
One side: a woman with no face.
The other:
“ONE WISH. ONE COST.”
She didn’t believe in magic—
But something about the coin felt… alive.
She clutched it and whispered:
“I wish people would finally notice me.”
That night, her mom asked about her day.
At school, her name was called first.
Even the popular girls said hi.
When she tripped, three people helped her up.
She glowed all the way home.
But then…
People noticed her too much.
Everyone stared. Even in silence. Even during math.
At lunch, students gathered around her table—just to watch.
Smiling.
Silent.
At home, her mom stood outside her door all night.
Staring through the crack.
Not blinking.
Emily tried to throw the coin away.
It reappeared—under her pillow.
In her cereal.
Everywhere.
She begged it to stop.
Then, one night, she whispered:
“I take it back.”
The coin grew hot.
She dropped it—
It split.
Smoke curled out.
A voice whispered:
“The cost has already been paid.”
The next day—no one saw her.
Not even her mom.
Teachers skipped her name again.
Students brushed past like she wasn’t there.
At lunch, she reached for a tray—
Her hand passed through it.
She ran to the mirror.
No reflection.
Her scream echoed.
But no one turned.
Emily had been noticed.
Now—she was forgotten forever.
The coin?
Still lies near the bus stop.
Waiting.
For someone else…
Desperate to be seen.
