A Tale of Feathers and Forgiveness
Once upon a time, on a sunny and vibrant farm, lived two mother hens named Clara and Bella. Clara was quick-witted and industrious, always leading her two fluffy chicks to the richest spots on the farmyard for food. Her sharp memory and boundless energy made her the envy of the farm. Bella, on the other hand, was less resourceful. She often struggled to find food for her own two chicks and was growing weary of always trailing behind Clara.
Day after day, Bella watched as Clara’s chicks grew strong and healthy, while her own appeared weaker. Jealousy began to brew in Bella’s heart. She couldn’t understand how Clara managed to remember every fruitful spot she scouted the previous day. Determined to outdo her clever neighbor, Bella decided to secretly follow Clara and note down the feeding spots she marked.
The next morning, Bella rushed to the farmyard with her chicks, eager to claim the best spots before Clara arrived. But as she reached the field, she realized she couldn’t recall a single location Clara had scouted. Frustrated, Bella was forced to watch as Clara confidently led her chicks to the richest feeding grounds once again.
Her envy deepened, and soon Bella’s jealousy turned into a sinister plan. “If Clara didn’t have her chicks, she wouldn’t be so confident,” Bella thought. One fateful morning, as Clara left her chicks in the nest to scout for food, Bella seized her opportunity. She crept to Clara’s nest, gathered the two unsuspecting chicks, and led them far away to the edge of a steep cliff. Abandoning the chicks there, Bella smugly returned to her own nest, certain her rival’s joy would soon turn into heartbreak.
But Bella’s plan unraveled in the most unexpected way. As she approached her own nest, she saw her two chicks playing unsupervised. A massive eagle had been circling the farmyard, its sharp eyes fixed on the tiny, defenseless chicks. With a sudden swoop, the eagle snatched both of Bella’s chicks and soared into the sky. Bella cried out in anguish, but it was too late. Her jealousy had cost her not only her friendship with Clara but her own beloved chicks.
When Clara returned to find her nest empty, she searched frantically. “Bella,” she asked, “have you seen my chicks?” Bella, hiding her guilt, lied, “A mighty eagle took both of our chicks.” Heartbroken, Clara retreated to her nest, falling into days of grief and loneliness.
One sunny afternoon, Clara stumbled upon a small eagle chick, or eaglet, trapped in a hunter’s net. Though she felt bitter toward the eagle that had supposedly taken her chicks, Clara’s kind heart won over. She freed the eaglet, who flew off with a joyous cry of thanks.
Weeks later, Clara and Bella were stunned to see an eaglet land near their nests. In its talons were Clara’s missing chicks! Clara’s heart leaped with joy as she embraced them. The eaglet explained, “We never took your chicks. I saw Bella abandon them at the cliff and kept them safe, waiting to return them to their mother.”
Overwhelmed with guilt, Bella tearfully confessed her misdeed. Clara, though deeply hurt, thanked the eaglet and decided it was time to leave the farm. Taking her chicks, Clara moved to a distant farm where they lived in peace. Bella remained behind, alone, haunted by the loss of her own chicks and the betrayal that cost her a dear friend.
And so, the tale of Clara and Bella became a lesson for all who heard it: jealousy and deceit only lead to loss, while kindness and forgiveness light the path to true happiness.
