The Tortoise and the Hare
Once upon a time in a lush, green forest, there was a speedy hare named Max who loved boasting about his incredible speed. Max was always bragging to the other animals about how he could run faster than anyone.
One day, while showing off his speed, he encountered a slow-moving tortoise named Toby.
Max, with a smirk, challenged Toby to a race. "You’re so slow, Toby," he taunted. "I bet you can’t even get halfway across the meadow before I finish a lap!"
Toby, known for his calm and thoughtful nature, accepted the challenge. "I may be slow, but I’ll give it my best. Let’s race!"
The race was set for the next morning. All the animals gathered to watch, eager to see who would win. Max was confident he would win easily. As the race began, Max shot off like a bullet, quickly leaving Toby far behind.
Max was so sure of his victory that he decided to take a nap under a shady tree, thinking he had plenty of time.
Meanwhile, Toby plodded along steadily and slowly but surely.
He didn’t stop or get distracted; he kept his eyes on the finish line and moved with determination. The sun climbed higher in the sky as Max continued to sleep soundly.
After a long nap, Max woke up and stretched. He looked around and realized that Toby was nowhere to be seen. “I’ll catch up in no time,” he thought and dashed towards the finish line. But as he approached, he saw a surprising sight—Toby was almost at the finish line, moving at his slow but consistent pace.
Panicking, Max sprinted with all his might, but it was too late. Toby crossed the finish line just as Max arrived, breathing heavily and out of breath.
The forest erupted in cheers for Toby. Max was stunned and embarrassed. He had underestimated Toby’s perseverance and overestimated his own superiority. Toby smiled and said, “Slow and steady wins the race.”
