Counting Higher Numbers

Once you learn the numbers from 1 to 20, counting higher numbers becomes easier. Here's a simple rule to follow:

For numbers between 21 and 69, you combine the tens digit (20, 30, 40, etc.) with the units digit (1 to 9). For example:

  • 21 - vingt et un (vahn tay uh)
  • 38 - trente-huit (trahnt wheat)
  • 56 - cinquante-six (sank-ahnt sees)

For numbers between 70 and 99, you use the word for 60 (soixante) and add the units digit (10 to 19). For example:

  • 73 - soixante-treize (swah-sahnt trehz)
  • 88 - quatre-vingt-huit (katr-vahn wheat)
  • 94 - quatre-vingt-quatorze (katr-vahn kah-tohrz)
