Adding decimal numbers is similar to adding whole numbers, but with an extra step to align the decimal point. To add decimal numbers, you must first line up the decimal point, and then add the numbers as you would with whole numbers.
For example, to add the decimal numbers 2.5 and 3.64:
Line up the decimal points by adding a 0 to the end of 2.5, so it becomes 2.50 to match with the decimal points in the other number.
Add the numbers as you would with whole numbers:
2.50
+3.64
6.14
In this case, 2.50 + 3.64 = 6.14
Another example:
1.340
+2.671
4.011
In this case, 1.34 + 2.671 = 4.011
It's important to note that when adding decimal numbers, the decimal point stays in the same place, and the digits are added to the right of the decimal point.
