Exploring Types of Numbers

Discover the different types of numbers with our interactive guide designed for grade 1-3 kids
Numbers come in different types. Here are a few of them:

  • Natural numbers

    : These are the numbers that we use to count things, like how many toys we have or how many cookies we have eaten. The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on are natural numbers.

  • Whole numbers

    : These are numbers that include natural numbers and zero. So we can include 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on are whole numbers.

  • Integers

    : These are numbers that include natural numbers, zero, and negative numbers. So we can include -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on are integers.

  • Fractions

    : These are numbers that are smaller than one. For example, 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, these numbers can be written as fractions, which tell us how many parts of something we have.

  • Decimals

    : These are numbers that have a point in them. For example, 0.25, 2.5, 3.14, these numbers can be written as decimals, which tell us how much of something we have.

  • Real Numbers

    : These are numbers that include all the above types of numbers and also some special numbers like pi and square roots of numbers.

So numbers are really diverse, they come in different types and each type is used to represent different things. And we can use different types of numbers to help us understand the world around us.
