Guide to Adding Numbers

You know that when you have one toy, and you get another toy, you have two toys now, right? That's called adding! We use a plus sign (+) to show that we want to add two numbers together.

For example, if you have 3 marbles and you find 2 more, you can say you have 3 + 2 = 5 marbles now. The numbers 3 and 2 are called addends and the number 5 is the sum, which means the total number of marbles you have.

So if you want to add two numbers, we just put them next to each other with the plus sign in between and then we get a bigger number, which is the sum.
Let's try adding with your fingers, if you have 3 fingers up and you add 2 more fingers, how many fingers do you have now? 3 + 2 = 5 fingers!

And that's how we do addition! It's really easy, right?
